VIVACITY LED SAFETY TACTILE BLOCKS

Vivacity LED Safety Tactiles (TGSI) are designed to significantly reduce the number of crashes involving vulnerable road users at traffic light controlled intersections.

tactile blocks (TGSI)

Vivacity LED Safety Tactile Blocks are designed to significantly reduce the number of crashes at traffic light controlled intersections. They replace the ordinary Tactile Ground Surface Indicators (TGSI) seen at traffic lights, road crossings and other high risk locations for people with impaired vision. Vivacity LED Safety Tactiles place the visual warning that, it isn’t safe to walk, ahead of the hazard.

The main reason for the first installation of LED Safety Tactiles in Melbourne was pedestrians not looking up from their smart phones before stepping onto the road. LED Safety Tactiles increase the visibility of traffic signals for pedestrians using their mobile phones, chatting to friends or enjoying the sights of the city.

An evaluation of 20 locations where LED Safety Tactile Blocks were installed found that the number of traffic crashes, injuries and deaths decreased by 26.2%, 21.2% and 38.3% respectively.

Designed to significantly reduce CRASHES & INJURIES

After installations of the LED Safety Tactile Block at 20 major locations in a city, the number of traffic accidents, injuries and deaths decreased by 26.2%, 21.2% and 38.3% respectively.

Victoria’s TAC introduced the first Vivacity LED Safety Tactile in Melbourne to improve safety for pedestrians on busy city streets.

WHERE & HOW ARE LED SAFETY TACTILES INSTALLED?

Vivacity LED Safety Tactiles are installed at traffic lights, pedestrian crossings and where there is a risk of people walking into a high-risk location. They are positioned in accordance with local guidelines and standards for the installation of Tactile Ground Surface Indicators (TGSI).

Vivacity LED Safety Tactiles have been installed at traffic lights in the CBD of Melbourne, inner-city pedestrian crossings, on tram routes, bus-stops and outside a train station, as well as at a busy footpath past a loading dock.

Vivacity LED Safety Tactiles can be easily retrofitted to existing traffic signals or included in road upgrade projects.  Low-voltage wiring connects the Vivacity LED Safety Tactiles to a Vivacity control box on each traffic signal, then to the traffic signal controller. The LED Safety Tactile mimics the standard pedestrian lantern so that they change at the same time.

Vivacity LED Safety Tactiles are designed for easy maintenance. They have a modular construction enabling a damaged tactile to be quickly replaced in minutes.
